Centennial Academy, Las Vegas, NV

When constructing the new Centennial Academy school in Las Vegas the school board members were looking into ground cover options for the playground areas. Spanning approximately 13,000 sq. ft., the area needed to be covered with a material that met strict safety requirements, had a superior fall rating and did not require water due to the severe water restrictions in the region. After researching rubberized play surfaces and wood chips they chose a combination of SYNPlay and SYNBlue artificial grass for the entire area. SYNPlay was chosen over the other playground surface options because not only did it meet the safety and fall rating requirements, it exceeded them. The nylon material in both SYNPlay and SYNBlue was also the better option for its ability to withstand constant foot traffic from the students.

SYNPlay was chosen for the fall zone areas under playground equipment and SYNBlue for the play areas that were not under playground equipment. Because of the similar face construction of the two products SYNLawn was able to install the two products, together side by side without any visible seams. This kept the natural grass appearance consistent over the entire area while also achieving the required safety standards. In addition, Centennial Academy eliminated the cost of lawn maintenance, an irrigation system and kept the water bill low. This solution not only helped reduce the initial construction cost but also helps them save money year after year.

Together the administration, parents and students of the school love the SYNLawn playground. Teachers love the fact that kids don't track dirt and mud into the classrooms after recess, even after a recent rainfall. Parents love that their kids stay clean and uniforms are never grass stained. In fact, several parents have decided to install SYNLawn at their homes since seeing it at the school. Kids enjoy the SYNLawn because in the desert heat it doesn't get as hot as rubber surfaces. The school administration was so pleased with the installation, performance and savings from this project they decided to use the same combination of SYNLawn products in a new preparatory academy currently under construction in a nearby city.
